Preventive benefits

A healthy mouth is essential to overall wellness

Taking care of your teeth can lead not only to a healthier mouth but can affect your overall health as well. Delta Dental of Colorado's benefit plans are designed with that in mind. That's why we offer preventive benefits to encourage regular dentist visits. To find out if your patients have any of these benefits, log in to our secure provider portal.

Hypertension Identification Program

In 2017, Delta Dental of Colorado began partnered with CU Health Plan (CUHP) and a select group of highly utilized dentists to track blood pressure readings taken during preventive dental visits. This innovative partnership has allowed us to connect the medical and dental aspects of overall health based on American Heart Association guidelines for hypertension (high blood pressure) identification and integrated data sharing.

In 2020, we added Larimer County to this innovative program and in 2021 Jefferson County School District. If you see a CUHP (group #12026), Jefferson County School District (group #1055) or Larimer County (group #11386) patient, you can receive reimbursement for taking the blood pressure, educating the patient, and referring them to their physician for a definitive diagnosis and work-up if necessary.

To date, more than 4,500 members have had their blood pressure taken at preventive dental appointments with this program, of which almost 2,000 lives were saved through early detection of hypertension and referral for follow-up primary care

Prevention First

Prevention First stretches your patients’ annual maximum benefit allowance by excluding costs for preventive care and diagnostic services — such as X-rays, exams, and cleanings — from their allowance, making more of their annual maximum available for other dental services throughout the plan year.

Prevention First is not offered on all plans. To find out if Prevention First is covered under their plan, patients can log in to our member portal and review their member handbook.
