Delta Dental in the Community

We’re different than most insurance companies. We're a non-profit. Instead of worrying about our bottom line, we focus on doing good within our community. It’s what sets us apart from other carriers. It’s also one of the keys to our success.

Land of Smiles
Delta Dental of Colorado offers a free, new and exciting live theater program on dental health for kindergarten through third grade students

The program, which will be piloted in Metro Denver in 2014, uses professional actors, a fun set and educational materials for teachers. The play and materials will be offered free as a community service from Delta Dental of Colorado.

CU Heroes Clinic
In collaboration with the CU Denver Office of Veteran Student Services, the CU Heroes Clinic will provide free dental care for military veterans enrolled in a degree program at University of Colorado Denver or University of Colorado Anschutz campus.

Many student veterans do not qualify for or receive coverage for dental care when they leave military service. The Heroes Clinic will address this gap, providing services which will supplement health care provided through the Veteran’s Administration.

Staffed by faculty and fourth-year students at CU’s School of Dental Medicine, the Heroes Clinic will operate selected weekdays during the fall semester with plans to expand into the spring of 2015. Every dollar donated by Delta Dental of Colorado to the Heroes Clinic will go towards the cost of preventive and restorative dentistry.

“These student veterans have given so much to our country that they truly are heroes, who are deserving of a Heroes Clinic established specifically for them,” said Kate Paul, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Colorado. “We are honored to work with CU Denver|Anschutz to provide this much needed service.”

The Office of Veteran Student Services (OVSS) at CU Denver|Anschutz supports hundreds of students with military connections. In addition to assisting student vets with the adjustment from military to campus life, OVSS also helps with the transition to civilian careers. In conjunction with the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, a program called “Boots to Suits” enlists the support of the business community in metro Denver to match student veterans with mentors, offer internships that provide relevant work experience, and offer assistance in the search for permanent jobs.

Healthy Smiles for Colorado Kids
Delta Dental of Colorado has created a free kit including an oral health lesson video and lesson plan to help teach kids K-2 the importance of oral health. Over 1,100 kits have been distributed to teachers across the state.

Past Programs

Delta Dental of Colorado Fund
In 2011, the Delta Dental of Colorado Board of Trustees approved formation of the Delta Dental of Colorado Fund to provide two years of free dental insurance to income-qualified individuals across Colorado. One example of how the Fund has helped people in our community is highlighted by Dr. Shawn Maloy’s story.

However, after enrolling more than 6,000 low-income Coloradoans, we have reached capacity and are no longer accepting applications from those without insurance. Learn more about our current programs to help Delta Dental of Colorado members with copay assistance.
